omnivisu — Jul 2004

»I was touched by the experience itself and also by how much the population of Berlin loved it: People stopped all night to look inside, watching their friend’s eyes transform the light tower into a face. For the people who were in the exhibition space inside the tower, the experience was totally different but touching nevertheless, whenever somebody looked into the kiosk, these gigantic eyes appeared in the space—like King Kong looking in.«

Technical Set-Up for ›Warschauer Brücke‹

The omnivisu Box was set-up right at the main passage to the platforms of the highly frequented Berlin S-Bahn. Pedestrians would be invited to take a look through the two lit holes. There were two security video cameras installed inside, pointed towards the user’s eyes. The signal was transmitted through analog av-transmitters of the type you can get at any wharehouse. Two of them were taped to a satellite-dish and installed on top of the kisok next to the box. The av-receivers were taped right to the inside of the tower’s glass windows. The signal was fairly stable and only needed a few adjustments during the ten days it was installed. The distance between transmitters and receivers would have been around 300 meters.
